Mobilisation of Backhoe Dredger Pat M across the Atlantic was effected by being lifted aboard Hansa Heavy Lift Ship Valparais. Special corner protection was installed on the Pat M for the lift and the lift was undertaken by two 700 ton ships cranes working in tandem. Phase 1 on arrival in Venezuela consists of removal of 150000m3 in silts gravel and rocks preparing a profile trench to 18 metres for jetty construction direct to a dump barge for disposal. Phase 2 consists of removal of similar material. Phase 2 consists of removal of a much larger volume of similar material for the access channel to the new ships turning circle.
